Gendered

​Tidbit of a French language lesson with one of my beginner students yesterday:
- Is "problème" a feminine or masculine word?
- It's "le problème", so...?
- Masculine. Figures...
- "Solution" is "la solution" though.
- Of course, it is. You have to love the French to make a problem masculine and a solution feminine.
Teaching a binary-gendered language can give way to funny situations sometimes.
